Professor Syeda Sultana Razia, Ph.D.

Professor Razia works at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). She also served as the Head of the department for two terms. With a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from BUET and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta, Canada, her areas of interest include chemical safety and security, process safety, separation processes, and sustainable process design. She received the 2023 OPCW-The Hague Award established by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in partnership with the Municipality of The Hague for contributing to capacity building and generating knowledge for securing a world free from chemical weapons. OPCW recognized Dr. Razia for her contributions to promoting chemical safety and security in Bangladesh and also her role as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), where she served as a member from 2018 to 2023 and contributed to generating new knowledge for securing the world free from chemical weapons.

Professor Razia is a subject matter expert in chemical security for the US State Department's Chemical Security Program (CSP) and an advisor to the National Authority of Chemical Weapons Convention (BNACWC) under the Armed Forces Division, Bangladesh. She also served as an expert in several national policymaking and investigation committees dealing with technological, safety, and security issues and is involved in assessing the chemical and environmental safety of different chemical industries.
