Md. Shariful Alam, Ph.D.

Dr. Alam is a former secretary to the Government of Bangladesh and is currently a professor at the Department of Political Science, Dhaka International University. With an international development professional experience of over thirty years of professional experience, he has rich blended experience working with the government of Bangladesh as a career civil servant and international development organizations, including the World Bank, USAID, UNICEF, DANIDA, ADB, EU, and WFP. His areas of specialization are project management, monitoring, and evaluation; policy reforms in public health (anti-tobacco and road safety), the water and sanitation sector; disaster risk reduction; development research and policy analysis; training facilitation; and GO-NGO development partnership. He studied political science at Chittagong University and later obtained a master's in Urban Environmental Management from the Wageningen Agricultural University in the Netherlands. He received his Ph.D. from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). He authored several books and published journal articles from home and abroad. He is a widely traveled professional. He is associated with various non-government organizations and think tanks, including the South Asian Network for Public Administration (SANPA).
